February 21: A Favorite Photo of Yourself
This is not easy. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I'm fairly silly when it comes to photographs of myself. I take a lot of photos of other people because I'm usually the one behind the camera, but I'm not afraid to admit that I like seeing photos of myself from events as well, because it takes me back to the feelings of that moment. Photos remind me just what I was thinking and feeling at a particularly time. That being said, I chose two:
1) a photo of me taken by Alec on our honeymoon. We were spending a windy day in Cozumel. Our excursion had been canceled so we headed to the Mayan ruins on the island instead. I don't include any of the silly photos taken climbing on the archaeology, but this one of a peaceful moment looking at the surf. He caught me off-guard :-) It reminds me of how relaxed and peaceful that day was, and how thankful I was to spend that time with him.
2) a photo from my bridal shoot. I chose to have my pictures taken at the state capitol building (I know, you're shocked) and by the end of being alternately serious and sweetfaced, I needed some fun. Outside the Secretary of State's office is a statue of Kate Barnard, Oklahoma's first commissioner of charities and corrections and one of the very first women elected to state office in the US. Her story is an interesting one, and as a Master's student I wrote a paper about her. So, in my typical fashion, I went to have a photo taken with her. Of course, I couldn't just sit there with her . . .
