Yes, I'm horribly behind on my Photo-A-Day February. But I'm not going to catch up on that right now.
Instead, I'm going to talk to you about St. Patrick's Day.
St. Patrick's Day?
Yes.
Several years ago in a fit of singleness and a desperate desire to erase the memory of an anniversary, I decided that I would no longer celebrate Valentine's Day. It's not that I have hatred toward the holiday, I just wanted to turn the day into something that made me happy. And what day did I choose? St. Patrick's Day. I mean, what isn't to enjoy about celebrating my Irish heritage, turning Dr. Pepper green (which doesn't work too well), and wearing my favorite color? So, I began celebrating two St. Patrick's Days, one on the traditional day and one on February 14.
Since then, my need to turn February 14 into a different holiday has waned. Now I do it just because I enjoy it. Now, I may have incorporated some elements of Valentine's Day into the celebration (such as gift-giving), but I still have way more fun telling everyone Happy St. Patrick's Day rather than the other :-) Fortunately for me, I found a partner-in-crime who enjoys St. Patrick's Day as much, if not more, than I do.
In honor of the day, he gave me some emerald earrings. They fit the theme.
