Just a short time ago, this great country of ours reach a watershed moment in its history. We inaugurated our first African-American president. I sat with my coworkers around our conference/lunch table to witness the historic moments leading up to President Obama attempting to take the oath of office from the Chief Justice. I experienced a historical moment, felt the pride of a nation gaining a sense of ownership, witnessed inspiring crowds, and, of course, saw IT.
The Hat.
Aretha Franklin's infamous hat--the hat that launched a thousand comments. I'm certain that the chapeau-designer in Detroit never thought that the design Ms. Franklin chose for her Inauguration Day serenade of President Obama would be in demand by the Smithsonian for its cultural impact on the day. Lest you think I'm being too dramatic, I give you:
The Aretha Franklin's Hat Flikr Page!
Found here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/957878@N25/pool/ , the page is a collection of PhotoShop-ped photos of regular people, celebrities, pets, etc. wearing the Aretha Franklin headwear. I, of course, am partial to the squirrel :-)
